If IE5 worked fine right after you installed it but is now behaving strangely (random crashes, error messages, etc.), you may be in need of a fix. Microsoft provides an Internet Explorer Repair Tool that can make sure all of IE's required files are correctly installed. More information can be found in the document Q194177 at http://support.microsoft.com.
How do I fix this quirky thing?
Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Internet Explorer 5, click Add/Remove, click Repair the current installation of Internet Explorer, and then click OK.
The Repair Tool is not there or didn't work
In the event that the Repair tool does not work, or Internet Explorer 5 is not listed in the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel, it may be possible to start the Repair tool from the command line.
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type the following command exactly as listed (this is all one line):
rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"
NOTE: This command line is case sensitive.
Click OK.
Isn't there an easier way?
Click Start, point to Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click System Informaton.
On the Microsoft System Information toolbar click Tools and choose Internet Explorer Repair Tool.
For more information on glossary terms, click the Windows Start button and choose Help. Select the Index tab and type in ie or internet explorer as a keyword. It's that simple!
