Resizing windows can really be a hassle. Take the old window out, enlarge the opening or frame-in the opening for a smaller window, set the window and then finish the interior and exterior walls. It's really bad when you have to enlarge the opening and then you run into electrical or plumbing lines. What a pain!
Wait. We're talking about the Windows operating system not buildings! You can resize a program window IF you haven't maximized the window. Remember those three little caption buttons on the right of the program window title bar? Title bar - up there where it says "Moron Windows - Resizing Windows". How do I know the window is maximized? The program window will cover the entire screen except the taskbar if it is maximized; unless the taskbar is in Auto-Hide, but, that's another story. You will also notice that when the mouse pointer is moved to the edge of the program window, it will not change shape. How do I unmaximize it? Click on the in the . Okay, let's assume that your program window is NOT maximized. You can move your pointer which might look like this to the top, side, bottom or corner of the program window.
Grab the top or bottom
Moving the pointer to the top or bottom edge of a program window will cause the pointer to change to . Moving the pointer to the left or right edge of a program window will cause the pointer to change to . You can then hold the left mouse button down and drag the mouse horizontally if the pointer is on the left or right side of the program window or vertically if the pointer is on the top or bottom of the program window. The program window will resize depending on the direction you move the mouse.
Grab the edge
Moving the pointer to any corner edge of a program window will cause the pointer to change to or . You can then press the left mouse button and while holding the button down, drag the mouse in any direction and simultaneously (whew!) resize the program window vertically and horizontally.
Just move it
You didn't want to resize the window? Just wanted to move it? Place your pointer in the title bar of the program window, hold the left mouse button down and drag the mouse around. The program window will move with you.
