Ghosts With Nine Lifes
January 3, 1994

You know that old wife's tale about cats having nine lives? We're beginning to believe. Kirby is taking on characteristics of Shari's cat Marmie and David's cat Benny. We haven't figured out how Kirby knows what Benny use to do since he was gone by the time Kirby showed up. Kirby was around Marmie for awhile til Big Orange struck out in the bottom of the ninth. Pigging out; you're suppose to be able to leave cat food out and the cat knows how much to eat; "just a little now and a little later; just enough to give me enough energy so I can clean myself." We didn't realize Kirby would live up to his vacuum namesake. "I really like sleeping in the house at night with the weather as cold as it is; and I get a little bored at times and find it amusing to walk back and forth in the vertical blinds - drives the humans crazy." Naturally, Kirby sleeps on Shari's legs who happens to be the wrong person for this type of behavior. David spent 12 years with Benny sleeping on his. But, Shari puts up with it; he's so cute and cuddily. Of course, "I need to clean myself occasionally during the night." How does a 10 lb. cat manage to put a 7 on the Richter scale? Then there are the "I feel extremely frisky and I'm going to bite your ankles" episodes followed by "let's see how many times I can skitter over the couch, across the easy chair and up David's leg." "There's that dumb dog. Watch me make his tongue hang out." Zip...So far, Kirby hasn't perched himself on the top of a door and pounced as we walk by; it's early yet!
